Preset: ND Grad

As much as I love Aperture I really wish it had a way to do gradients. While brushes is great for a lot of things there are times when you really need a grad. Luckily there is workaround. It’s sort of a hack and I’ll have a tutorial on how to do it next week, but for an appetizer here’s a preset I made using the technique. It’s a simple ND grad. It was designed for the Canon 5D Mark II so if you have a different camera your results might be different. So long as you have  camera with a smaller sensor it should work ok, but the graduated area will be larger. This is a simple burn adjustment with the grad hack applied. here’s a before and after:

Before:

ND Grad off

After:

ND Grad on

It’s set up as a nice smooth grad in the middle of the image. Just apply it to anything with a sky that’s at mid to one third and it should work. Unfortunately you can’t move it, but it’s a start. I’ll show you how I did this next week!

Note: Aperture 3 is required for adjustment presets. For instructions on how to install watch this video which shows you what to do
