Silver Efex Pro is 64bit

On Nik software’s website it’s very confusing as to whether or not the recently released version 3 of Silver Efex Pro (one of my favorite plug ins) runs in 64bit in Aperture 3. On the products information page, under the compatibility tab it states that it runs in 32bit on Aperture 3 but offers a link to more information about 64 bit compatibility. Going to this page it states that:

“Viveza 2, HDR Efex Pro, Color Efex Pro 3.0, and Silver Efex Pro are all now 64-bit compatible. To download the free 64-bit update”

however immediately below that there is a section on Aperture compatibility where it says that:

“All Nik Software plug-ins (Dfine 2.0, Viveza 2, Color Efex Pro 3.0, Silver Efex Pro, and Sharpener Pro 3.0) are fully compatible with Aperture 3 while in 32-bit mode. For more information about future 64-bit support click here.”

The click here bringing you to the same page. Like I said, confusing. Anyway, I downloaded the trial version and it is indeed 64bit. So if you were wondering you now have a definitive answer.

All I can say is… FINALLLLLLLYYYY!

Nothing is more annoying then having the application close, and then re-open when using the plugins within Aperture. Thanks for blogging about this, I’ll try and install these tonight.

I find working with Silver EFX in Aperture really enjoyable and that’s why I’m upset to report an issue. I was wondering if anyone else has this problem.

I can open an image in Silver EFX through Aperture, edit the image, close Silver EFX and wala the image is in my Aperture library exactly as I edited it in Silver EFX.

The problem comes when I try to edit another image in Silver EFX everything starts out fine…progress bar for Silver EFX comes up…and then disappears….and then nothing happens…

I try to click on the image in Aperture and all I get is a “you made a mistake” tone. I try to click on anywhere in the Aperture window and I get that annoying tone again.

I can go through the menu bar in Aperture but almost everything is greyed-out, including the plug-in list.

So far the only way to solve this problem is to force-quit Aperture and restart……

    Has anyone else seen this?

I haven’t seen it do that yet. Will check again
